Situated
southeast of Brussels and wedged betweeen the woodlands of the Foret
de Soignes, the European capital Brussels to the north and the green
municipalities of Overijse, La Hulpe
and
Genval. The old village borders the small IJzer/Yser river. The
outlying built-up area is a little bit higher up the hilly terrain.
Officially located on Flemish soil, but rapidly internationalizing due
to an influx of well heeled Europeans. Combined with excellent schools,
a stock of not overly expensive villa's on decent plots, and the laid
back village atmosphere (Hoeilaart has slightly more than 10.000
inhabitants), makes for an increasing demand from expat families to
settle in this quiet corner of the Brussels agglomeration.

Compared
with some eastern urbs, Hoeilaart villa's are still affordable
for middle class French speakers migrating from Brussels.
Families that are hunting for 'quatre facades' kind of gave
up on Wezembeek, Kraainem and Tervuren and shift their attention to
communities like Hoeilaart, Waterloo, Genval.
Accessibility is ann issue depending on where one has to go. If
one has a daytime job at the Zaventem airport, Hoeilaart might
not be a very good idea.
The Brussels RER/GEN project is supposed to improve public transport from the Brussels suburbs drastically. See map below. |
