Wezembeek-Oppem
is an affluent community just east of Brussels and neighbouring
Kraainem. It doesn´t have something that looks like a village
centre, so it has become just a sleepy Brussels suburb for the last
fifty years. Apart from the big Delhaize, some serious shopping gets
done in either the Woluwe Shopping Centre (Roodebeek), Place Dumont, or
the Tervuren village. Further out there´s always the option of
the Brussels pentagon or the quaint city of Leuven.
If considering buying or renting in Wezembeek there are two important
things to pay close attention to. First there is the busy six-lane Ring
that cuts right through a part of Wezembeek-Oppem. Depending on
natural barriers or erected structures and the altitude of the highway
at a certain point relative to the altitude of the prospective
dwelling, it looks like one would have to have a distance to the
Ringroad of at least 150 meters to have bearable noise polllution.
The second factor to scrutinize are the flightpaths
of incoming and outgoing planes from Zaventem. Granted, airport
Zaventem itself is a little more quiet than before and yes planes are
gettting more silent to. But if you are very wary with all kind of
external noises, study the map before you are jumping on a big decision.
