Municipality with a familiar name due to the fact that the Belgium national airport is partly located on its premises. The other parts of the airport happen to be on the soil of Machelen and Steenokkerzeel.
We listed Zaventem in the general list in the subdivision "north" because demografically and psychologically Zaventem (with the exception of Sterrebeek) has everything to do with other municipalities on the northern and western edge of Brussels.

The mayor of Zaventem is Francis Vermeiren (1935). From the Flemish Liberal Party (VLD) and leading the pack in Zaventem since 1983.
