Sterrebeek,
officially part of the municipality of Zaventem, is a seperate entity
in the Flemish countryside east of Brussels. More modest,
more
Flemish and a lot cheaper than Wezembeek-Oppem, it is starting to
attract a considerable amount of internationals from the capital, who
are all looking for a good deal in the real estate market.
There
is no downtown to speak of. Shops are located along the strip of the
Mechelsesteenweg. The countryside around here is flat and rather dull,
but Sterrebeek will end up in some years from now in the ultimate
suburb.Connection with the Ring is very good. The proximity
of
Ring and the Airport could cause locally lots of nuisance,
depending on air traffic routes, so take account if you are very
sensitive. But be careful with complaints because after all this is
part of the Zaventem municipality which thrives on the airport.
The
hippodrome of Sterrebeek (see pic above) could have been one of its
most exciting features. Currently it is not in use.
